Kathryn Arbanna Edwards, the daughter of Charles V. and Bertha M. McMaines Oden was born on June 8, l9l8 in Beatrice, NE. She died on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at the Stanton Care Center, Stanton, Iowa at the age of 91 years, 9 months and 24 days. Kathryn attended Beatrice Public Schools and graduated in 1936. She worked at Milburn and Scott Co. in Beatrice, NE as a bookkeeper and stenographer from 1937 to l941. Kathryn married Gerald Gary A. Edwards on September 9, 1939 in Beatrice, NE. They lived in Omaha, NE and Council Bluffs, IA from l942 until 1954, where she was a bookkeeper at Oden Distributions Co. from l945-l951. They moved to Yankton, SD where they opened Yankton Sewing Machine and Appliance, and operated this business together until retirement in l978. Kathryn was active in the Women's Fellowship of United Church of Christ Congregational Church, PTA, The Girl Scout Council and Yankton Area Genealogical Society. Kathryn moved to Stanton, IA in l995. She was a member of Mamrelund Lutheran Church, the Twentieth Century Club and the Friendly Study Club. She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed genealogy, reading, and traveling, but most of all her grandchildren. She enjoyed her many friends and conversations the last four years at the Stanton Care Center. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gary on May 4, l983; brothers: Walter, Ralph, Howard and Robert Oden. Kathryn is survived by her daughter and spouse, Linda Edwards Ashley and Judd Ashley of Stanton, IA; three grandchildren: Amber Ashley Sellers and husband Dustin of Stanton, IA, Judson Ashley II of Villisca, IA, Jake Ashley of Omaha, NE; one cousin and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak, IA Burial at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, IA Rev.
