Obituary

Kathryn Gayle Slater, the daughter of Milton Gail and Blanche E. (Shires) Wright was born March 7, 1923 in Montgomery County, Iowa near Elliott. She passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 2 months and 30 days. Kathryn was raised in the Elliott area and moved to Red Oak in 1939. She graduated from Red Oak High School in l940. Kathryn was united in marriage to Delbert Slater in l941. Throughout her career as a bartender, Kathryn worked for Winn's Tavern, Red Oak County Club, Chances R, Gold Crown, Holiday Inn, Red Coach's Barn Door and the Elks Lodge from which she retired. Kathryn enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; son, Dennis Slater; daughter, Sandra Allen and her husband Richard; and brothers: Jack Wright and wife Grace, Donald Wright, and Kenneth Wright and wife Dorothy. Kathryn is survived by her son, Alden Slater of Red Oak, IA; daughter-in-law, Marlene Slater of Red Oak, IA; sisters-in-law: Ollie Wright of Colonial Heights, VA and Audrey Wright of Brookings, SD; several nieces, nephews, cousins, along with other relatives and friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Memorial Graveside Service will be held Saturday, June 22 at 10:30 in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, IA. Family and friends may gather at the cemetery for the service. Family requests memorials in lieu of flowers to: Red Oak Fire & Rescue, Montgomery County Animal Rescue, Red Oak Library or Montgomery County Relay for Life. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
