Kenneth Charles "Ted" Gillespie, the son of Vernard and Eva Coate Gillespie was born September 12, 1915 in Red Oak, Iowa. He died on Monday, May 28, 2007 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 91 years, 8 months and 16 days. Kenneth was raised southwest of Red Oak in West Township and graduated from Red Oak High School. Kenneth entered the U.S. Army in l942, being discharged in November of 1945. He was united in marriage to Laurinda Jacobson on March 6, 1947 in Stanton, Iowa. For 60 years, Kenneth and Laurinda made their home on a farm in West Township, a half mile of where he lived as a child. Kenneth farmed and enjoyed doing electrical work in his spare time. After he retired from farming, he helped Ron Gerlt for a few years. Kenneth was a member of Hawthorne Methodist Church. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; and 4 brothers: Floyd, Forrest, Robert and Eldon. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Laurinda Gillespie of rural Red Oak, IA; son, Norman Gillespie of Red Oak, IA; daughter, Kathryn Sautter and husband Tim of Mason City, IA; grandchildren: Erik Sautter and wife Ambre; Kayla Wilson and husband Ryan; great-grandchild, Inara Sautter; sister-in-law, Ruth Gillespie of Villisca, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
