Obituary

Kenneth Calvin Long, the son of Arthur and Marjorie Leek Long, was born January 28, 1940 in Burlington Junction, Missouri. He passed away Friday, July 27, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak, Iowa at the age 72 years, 5 months and 29 days. Kenneth grew up in the Essex area and graduated from Essex High School. After high school, Kenneth was drafted into the United States Army where he served with the military police. Kenneth was a self employed welder and enjoyed all aspects of outdoor life, fishing, hunting and working with horses. Kenneth was united in marriage to Janice M. Skalberg on June 20, 1992 in Essex, Iowa. He was a member of the Red Oak Eagles Club. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Harry Wooten; sister, Helen Bowles; and two brothers: Dan and Morgan Long. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Janice M. Long of Red Oak, IA; daughters: Sandra Ranney and husband Lynn; and Shelby Olivares, all of Red Oak, IA; stepdaughter, Terri Knapp and husband Jody of Villisca, IA; stepson, Jon Peterson and wife Mona of Yuma, AZ; sister, Linda Lewis and husband John of Shenandoah, IA; brothers: James Long and wife Joyce of Essex, IA; and Jack Long and wife Penny of Tennessee; sister-in-law, Lou Long of Shenandoah, IA; brothers-in-law: Glen Skalberg and wife Lupe of California; John Skalberg of Red Oak, IA; Robert Skalberg of Minnesota; Larry Skalberg and wife Marlene of Emerson, IA; Jerry Skalberg and wife Juanita of Red Oak, IA and Leslie Skalberg and wife Connie of Red Oak, IA; along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn. Visitation with the family present on Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
