Kenneth Robert Petersen, the son of Robert and Virginia (Sitzman) Petersen, was born February 9, 1950, in LeMars, Iowa. He passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024, at Maggie's Place, Overland Park, Kansas, at the age of 74 years.
Ken was raised in Merrill, IA, and graduated from LeMars High School. He attended Iowa State University, and received a Masters degree in Nuclear Engineering. Ken enjoyed spending time in Okoboji with his family and was the designated boat captain each summer. Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Sue on April 1, 2022, his parents, and his sister, Peggy Petersen.
Ken is survived by his daughter, Emily (Michael) Moss of Leawood, KS; son, Eric (Kim) Petersen of Eudora, KS; grandchildren: Maren, Whitney, and Chase Moss and Mason Petersen; sister Kathy (Larry) Prather of Phoenix, AZ; and brothers: Kevin (Linda) Petersen of Quartz Hill, CA, Gary (Cheryl) Petersen of Storm Lake, IA and Rick (Vikki) Petersen of Clearwater, FL; bothers-in-law: Jim Raney of Stanton, IA and Bob (Lynn) Peterson of Okoboji, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
