Obituary

Kenneth Lamar Sohl, the son of Andrew and Minnie (Keeker) Sohl was born March 11, 1922 at Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska. He passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society, Villisca, Iowa at the age of 96 years and 18 days.

Kenny's father was a farmhand and as he was growing up, this work took the family to several farms in Nebraska, Colorado and Kansas. Following high school, Kenny entered the Army Air Force on September 11, 1942. He served during WW II and was honorably discharged on March 12, 1946. Kenny moved to Omaha and began his loyal career with Wilson Certified Meats, as a sales representative. On August 8, 1947, Kenny was united in marriage to Vivian N. Blackwell in Omaha, Nebraska, and they celebrated over 60 years of love and marriage. Kenny and Vivian lived in Chariton, Iowa before making Red Oak their home in 1950. They were active in community organizations and were members of the First United Methodist Church, where Kenny served many terms on the board. He was a member of the American Legion Lorraine Post #67, having served as secretary and treasurer. Kenny belonged to the Masonic Lodge #162 A.F & A.M., was a past member of Faith Rebekah Lodge and served on the board at Acorn Acres. Kenny especially loved attending his children's sporting events and activities. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing bridge and cribbage. Kenny and Vivian loved to travel and had visited 48 states. During the summer he could be found tending to his yard and even painting houses for others. In his early retirement years, Kenny sold cars for R. K. Belt & Sons for a short time. Kenny loved his family dearly and was a friendly person who knew no strangers and shared a smile with everyone he saw.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vivian on May 15, 2008; and two brothers: Ralph and Lawrence.

Kenny is survived by his four children: Duane (Carol) Sohl of Chicago, IL; Ronald (Judy) Sohl of Garland, TX; Robert Sohl of Villisca, IA and Carol Sohl (Scott) Euken of Omaha, NE; 10 grandchildren: Justin (Michelle) Sohl, Amanda (Bryse) Toothacker, Bradley (Sara) Sohl, Tisha (Lucas) Overman, Shawn (Brandi) Sohl, Shelby (Raymundo) Mendoza, Jennifer (Philip) Walter, Elizabeth Sohl, Megan Sohl and McKenna Colvin; 14 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and many friends.

May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn.
