Korine Verona Amanda Finley, the daughter of Arnoth and Nora Oakleaf Lantz was born August 8, 1922 in Scott Township of Montgomery County near Stanton, Iowa. She died on Friday, May 9, 2008 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa after a brief illness at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 1 day. Korine was raised near Stanton. She graduated from Red Oak High School in l939. Korine attended Red Oak Junior College and received her normal training and teaching certificate. She then began her teaching career. After many years of teaching, she continued her own education and in 1972, at the age of 50, graduated from Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville, MO with her Bachelors Degree. Throughout her career Korine taught school for thirty-one and a half years, mainly in Red Oak. She enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with her family. The past number of years she became a Michigan football fan, cheering on her grandson and the Wolverines. Korine was a member of the Red Oak Presbyterian Church and Retired Teachers Association. She volunteered many hours with the American Red Cross, Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and Montgomery County YMCA. Korine was a past member of Delta Kappa Gamma. When Korine moved to Acorn Acres, she served on their Executive Council. Korine was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Octavia Levine and husband Allan; brother, Levi Lantz and wife Dorothy; and brother-in-law, Harry Strickland. Korine is survived by three children: Beverly Fuller and husband Dick of Leawood, KS; Don Finley and wife Mary of Greenwood, IN; Betty Johnston and husband Jim of Griswold, IA; 8 grandchildren: Derek Fuller and wife Wendi; Shauna Fuller; Sean Finley and wife Jen; Nicholas Finley and wife Jenny; Adam Fuller; Peggy Henry and husband John; Leslie Weaver and husband Craig; Ben Johnston and wife Krysty; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Charlotte Strickland of Stanton, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Korine continued her love for education by donating her body to the University of Nebraska Medical Center for medical study. Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Red Oak Rev. Caryn Pedersen, Officiating Family request memorials in lieu of flowers to an Educational Scholarship or the Red Oak Rescue Unit. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
