Obituary

Larry Carl Edie, the son of Carl Winfield and Dorothy Mae (Carnes) Edie was born April 25, 1942 at Tabor, Iowa. He passed away after a 3 year battle with thyroid cancer on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 71 years, 7 months and 9 days. Larry grew up in southwest Iowa and attended several schools in the area. He entered Stanton schools in the sixth grade and graduated from Stanton High School in l960. Larry then attended Universal Trade School in Omaha, Nebraska. Larry was united in marriage to Venita Anderson on June 29, 1963 at Stanton, Iowa. To this union two daughters and a son were born. They had just celebrated 50 years of marriage in June of this year. Larry worked for Murphy Calendar, Nelson Dairy, Youngberg Standard, Kerkhoff Implement, Anderson-Spiker and Don Hindmarsh Chevrolet. In 1971, Larry was employed by Uniroyal, which later became Parker-Hannifin, where he retired after 30 years of service. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge and currently a member of the Eagles Lodge in Red Oak. Larry loved cars and was a former member of the Chariots and Classy Chassis Car Club. He liked camping and loved spending the winter months in San Benito, Texas. His greatest love was his family and he especially enjoyed spending time with his six granddaughters, grandson-in-law and great-grandson. Larry was preceded in death by his parents. Larry is survived by his wife, Venita Edie of Red Oak, IA; daughters: Jennifer Elarton and husband Randy of Red Oak, IA, and Melissa Ringgenberg and husband Jason of Overland Park, KS; son, Kelly Edie of Red Oak, IA; granddaughters: Sydney Rhamy and husband Justin of Red Oak, IA, Andrea Elarton of Iowa City, IA, Margo Elarton of Omaha, NE, Olivia Elarton of Red Oak, IA, Lauren and Kate Ringgenberg of Overland Park, KS; great-grandson, Owen Rhamy of Red Oak, IA; sisters: Carla Rydberg and husband Don of Essex, IA, and Sandy Hansen and husband Don of Shenandoah, IA; brother-in-law, Daryl Anderson and wife Natasha of Dawsonville, GA; other relatives and friends. May God bless his memory and give strength to those mourn. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at the Eagles Lodge, December 21, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Burial of cremated remains will be in the Mamre Cemetery, Stanton, Iowa. Memorials to Montgomery County Relay for Life, Red Oak Fire & Rescue Association or Stanton Class of 1960 Scholarship Fund. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home assisting the family.
