Laura Frances Swift, the daughter of Birge O. and Ida (Pearson) Geer was born September 21, 1930 in Peoria, Illinois. She passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 82 years, 6 months and 23 days. Laura was raised in Peoria and Chicago, Illinois until she was eight, when her family then moved to California. Laura was united in marriage to Fred Swift on February 22, 1947 in Wilmar, California. They made their home in California where Laura owned and operated a dog grooming business for 15 years. In 1978, Laura and Fred moved to Red Oak. She worked at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital for five years as a nurse aide. Following Fred's death in 1984, Laura became a long-haul semi-truck driver. She was a devout Christian, sharing the word of God with family and friends. Laura was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred Swift on February 27, 1984; son-in-law, Peter Rabotinsky; grandson, Brendan Rabotinsky; and sister-in-law, Margaret Geer. Laura is survived by her children: Fred Swift Jr. of Baldwin Park, CA; Wesley Swift and wife Linda of Covina, CA; and Dena Elwood and husband Kent of Red Oak, IA; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers: Wayne Geer of Red Oak, IA; and Glenn Geer and wife, Evonne of Duluth, MN; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends. Graveside Burial will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, Iowa Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
