Laurinda Florence Ruth Gillespie, the daughter of H. Gilbert and Hulda W. Johnson Jacobson was born December 11, 1914 in Scott Township of Montgomery County, Iowa. She passed away on Friday, February 10, 2012 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 97 years, 1 month and 30 days. Laurinda was raised on a farm south of Stanton. She was baptized and confirmed at Mamrelund Lutheran Church. Laurinda graduated with the class of l932 from Stanton High School. She worked at the Stanton grocery store as a clerk, before being married. Laurinda was united in marriage to Kenneth C. Gillespie on March 6, 1947 in Stanton, Iowa. In 1947, they made their home on a farm southwest of Red Oak, where Laurinda called it home for the past 65 years. She attended Hawthorne Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening, baking and caring for the farm animals. Laurinda was a loving caregiver, caring for her mother and brother in their later years. Laurinda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth on May 28, 2007 and brother, Glendon Jacobson. Laurinda is survived by her son, Norman Gillespie of rural Red Oak, IA; and daughter, Kathryn Sautter and husband Timothy of Mason City, IA; grandchildren: Erik Sautter and wife, Ambre of Cedar Rapids, IA; and Kayla Wilson and husband, Ryan of Indianapolis, IN; great-grandchildren: Inara and Gemma Sautter; and cousin, Mary Houser of Red Oak, IA; other relatives along with a host of friends. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Burial in Salem Cemetery, southwest of Red Oak Visitation with the family at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home on Wednesday, Feb. 15 beginning at 12:30 p.m. until service time.
