Obituary

LaVon Elaine Larson, the daughter of Abner and Leona Proehl Nelson was born November 9, 1934 in Montevideo, Minnesota. She passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 25 days. LaVon was raised in Montevideo, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Montevideo. In 1952, LaVon graduated from Montevideo High School and attended Jr. College at Rochester, MN, earning a medical secretary certificate. She moved to Omaha, NE and worked in the radiology department at Methodist Hospital for three years. On June 8, 1957 LaVon was united in marriage to Kenneth D. Larson in Montevideo, MN. Kenneth was a farmer and they lived on farms near Bethesda and Essex before 1964, when they bought and made their home on a farm north of Bethesda, IA. Along with helping Kenneth, LaVon worked at the Stanton Care Center for 15 years, as an aide and with laundry, but for most of the time with the dietary department. She was a member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir, serving as a Sunday school teacher, and quilting with the ladies of the church. LaVon enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, sewing and playing cards. She was also involved in many neighborhood clubs and was still a regular with the Merry Mixers. LaVon treasured her family and loved to attend and support her grandsons' school activities, along with other local events. LaVon was preceded in death by her father, Abner; husband, Kenneth on July 23, 2005 and sister, Wanda Flickinger. LaVon is survived by daughters: Lori Miloni and husband Tony of North Little Rock, AR; and Lynn Meier and husband Dennis of Villisca, IA; grandsons: Daniel Meier and special friend Jackie Carlson; and David Meier; mother, Leona Nelson of Clarkfield, MN; nephews: Ronald Falk and wife Connie of Columbus, NE; and Scott Flickinger and wife Debbie of Andover, MN; nieces: Carol Falk of Tucson, AZ; and Sheryl Bednar and husband Paul of Imperial, PA; other relatives and a host of friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Bethesda Lutheran Church, Bethesda, IA Burial in the Bethesda Cemetery Rev. Jerry Lamb, Officiating Visitation with the family present on Friday, Oct. 7, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Family requests memorials in lieu of flowers to the Bethesda Lutheran Church. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
