Leland Victor Sellergren's Obituary
Leland Victor Sellergren, the son of Arvid and Emma D. Swanson Sellergren was born August 9, 1917 on a farm south of Stanton, Iowa. He passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa the age of 92 years, 10 months and 18 days.
Leland lived his whole life in the Stanton community. He graduated from Stanton High School in l935 and attended Red Oak Junior College for two years, where he continued to play basketball. Leland was united in marriage to Marian E. Seaburg on June 16, 1939 at Bethesda, IA. They began farming south of Stanton, and for the past 61 years made their home on their century farm west of Stanton. Leland farmed for 25 years before owning and operating Sellergren Propane for 18 years. In 1982, Leland retired and took up the game of golf, being a member of the Red Oak Country Club. He also enjoyed shooting a good game of pool. Leland was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, holding season tickets for many years and even attended several football bowl games. He was a member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church, serving on the church board many years and sang in the choir. Leland also sang with the Skona Maj singers. Leland served on the Farmers Mutual Telephone Company board in Stanton for 37 years and as the president of the board from 1989 to 2007. He was also a Scott Township assessor in his younger years. For the past 44 years, Leland was known by his family as ""Bapoo"", a name given to him by his granddaughter.
Leland was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donovan Sellergren; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Merton and Marjorie Eastlick.
Leland is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marian E. Sellergren of Stanton, IA; 3 daughters: Mary Lee Killion and husband Dennis of Red Oak, IA; Annette Billings and husband Doug of Murrells Inlet, SC; and Jane Burnham and husband Jim of Barrington, IL; 5 granddaughters: Sarah Hermeling and husband Tim; Sydney Matejka and husband Jim; Rachel Hagan and husband Jeremy; Melissa Billings and Abigail Billings; step-granddaughter, Brooke Haines; 8 great-grandchildren: Alex, Meredith, and Lauren Hermeling; Cameron and Brandon Matejka; and Emma, Luke and Adam Hagan; sister-in-law, Marjorie Sellergren of Stanton, IA; 1 nephew and 2 nieces; other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 2:00 p.m.
at Mamrelund Lutheran Church, Stanton, Iowa
Graveside rites will be held prior to the funeral service at Mamre Cemetery, Stanton, IA
Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home.
A memorial is being established in Leland's name.
