Leona Louise Johnson, the daughter of Lewis and Eva Bennett Arnold was born January 26, 1920 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She passed away on Monday, October 17, 2011 at the Clarkson Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 91 years, 8 months and 21 days. Leona grew up in Shenandoah, IA, graduating from Shenandoah High School. She was united in marriage to Dencil C. Johnson on April 12, 1939. They lived in the Essex area until moving to Red Oak in 1964. Leona had worked for the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital and Montgomery County Memorial Hospital as a nurse aide. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Red Oak. Leona loved to play bridge and bingo. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles, even doing them in ink. Leona was a Nebraska Cornhusker football fan and Chicago Cubs fan. The last two years, Leona was a resident at Red Oak Rehab & Care Center. She helped plant, and was so proud of, the flower garden at Red Oak Rehab & Care Center. Leona was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dencil in l980 and son, Larry Johnson in 2009. Leona is survived by three daughters: Sandra Hagemeier and husband Jack of Dallas Center, IA; Janet Darrell and husband Jerry of Red Oak, IA and Lori Vance and husband Rick of Omaha, NE; 6 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother: Don Arnold of Oregon; brother-in-law, Raymond Johnson and wife Marianna of Red Oak, IA; sister-in-law, Dorothy Arnold of Omaha, NE; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
