Lloyd Thomas Lewis, the son of Lawrence and Mary Smith Lewis was born October 17, 1932 in Adams County, Iowa. He died on Thursday, August 16, 2007 at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 74 years, 9 months and 30 days. Lloyd was raised and attended school in Stanton, Iowa. He entered the U. S. Marine Corps in l952, during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in l954. Lloyd was united in marriage to Ilean Lindberg on June 30, 1955 at Villisca, Iowa. Since 1955, Lloyd's career has been in the sign business. He began his career in Shenandoah, IA and after a time, Lloyd and Ilean moved to Tulsa, OK. In 1958, Lloyd and Ilean moved to Red Oak, and he opened Lewis Neon Sign Company. He owned and operated Lewis Neon Sign Company for the next 49 years, until the time of his death. Lloyd loved working with kids and enjoyed sponsoring and coaching Little League Baseball and Softball teams during the summers. Lloyd was a pilot and had a passion for airplanes. He rebuilt five airplanes during his flying years. Lloyd was involved in the Civil Air Patrol for many years. His love for speed moved from the air to the road, where he enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He enjoyed 4 trips to Sturgis, SD. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, boating and fishing. His true treasure was his family, whom he loved dearly. Lloyd was a member of American Legion Ernie Johnson Post #406 of Stanton, IA; Red Oak Masonic Lodge #162 A.F & A.M.; Tangier Shriners of Omaha, NE; Red Oak Eagles Lodge Aerie #2715; and two motorcycle clubs: the H.O.G.S. and the Southwest Iowa Chapter. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Lewis and Mary Witt; son, Douglas in l991; and brother, Donald. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Ilean Lewis of Red Oak, IA; daughter, Lori Hall of Craig, CO; granddaughter, Chrissy Steinkamp of Red Oak, IA; 2 great-grandchildren: Camden and Lilly Lewis; and sister, Marilyn Wemhoff and husband Robert of Omaha, NE; other relatives and a host of friends. Dr. Eric Kutzli, Officiating Masonic Rites will be held Monday evening at 7:00 PM at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home with visitation to follow till 8:00 PM Memorials to American Diabetes, Arthritis Foundation or American Cancer Society Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
