Obituary

Lloyd Elmer Penry, the son of Elmer A. and Hazel Pearl (Everett) Penry was born August 24, 1924 near Elliott, Iowa in Montgomery County. He passed away on Monday, October 24, 2016 at Red Oak Healthcare Community, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 92 years and 2 months.
Lloyd was raised on a farm near Carbon, Iowa and attended High Point School in rural Adams County. He went to work for the City of Corning, Iowa before entering the U. S. Army on April 18, 1944, training at Ft. Hood, Texas. Lloyd served during WW II at the Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. After his honorable discharge on March 21, 1946, he returned to Corning, Iowa. Lloyd was united in marriage to Margie Jean George and they lived in Clarinda, Shenandoah and Omaha, Nebraska before moving to Steamboat Springs, Colorado where Lloyd worked in a coal mine. Following his move to Red Oak, Lloyd was a Chevrolet mechanic for 24 years. In 1974, Lloyd began his 15-year career with the city of Red Oak, retiring in 1989. On June 27, 1980, Lloyd was united in marriage to Evelyn Louise Tillman at Corning, Iowa. Lloyd loved spending time with his family along with fishing, shooting pool, and bowling, having been a league bowler for over 40 years. Lloyd was a longtime member of the Red Oak Eagles Club.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn Louise Penry; three sisters, Dorothy, June and Myrtle; and brother, David.
Lloyd is survived by his two daughters: Carol McMullen and husband Robert of LaPlace, LA and Velma Pearl (Peggy) Maeder and husband Robert of Novinger, MO; five step-children: Jane Perea of Ft. Collins, CO; Jean Bozwell and husband Gary of Red Oak, IA; Diane Limkemann and husband Joe of Cedar Falls, IA; Dennis Tillman and wife Sue of Red Oak, IA; and Linda Schomburg of Red Oak, IA; 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 19 step-grandchildren, and 30 step-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Visitation with the family present will be held Thursday, October 27 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home.
Memorials may be directed to Eagles Club Scholarship Fund or Red Oak Fire & Rescue.
