Obituary

Lloyd Gaylord Thomas, the son of Clarence and Hattie Peck Thomas was born July 21, 1908 in Montgomery County, Iowa. He passed away on Friday, May 30, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Society in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 99 years, 10 months and 9 days. Lloyd was raised in Montgomery County. In 1930, Lloyd was united in marriage to Alice Nelson. Lloyd farmed many years in the Morton Mills area, he especially enjoyed raising livestock. His wife Alice passed away in 1962. On October 8, 1965, Lloyd was united in marriage to Verna Pat Kraft Goecker at Villisca, Iowa. They continued to live on the farm until l971. Lloyd and Pat then made their home in Red Oak. Lloyd worked for Sears and Earl May, along with helping several farmers on their farms. Lloyd was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Red Oak. Lloyd loved to play cards and was very competitive; he enjoyed winning most of the time. Lloyd's hobbies included fishing and woodworking. He built doll furniture, farm toys, plant stands, Christmas decorations and even cabinets. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Alice; son, Richard Thomas in l959; grandson, Robert Allan Harper in l986; two brothers: Roy "Dick" Thomas and Bert Thomas; and stepson, David Goecker. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Verna M. Thomas of Red Oak, IA: daughter, Ruby Harper and husband Bob of Villisca, IA; step-daughters: Patricia Wells and husband Roger of Council Bluffs, IA; and Kathleen Edrington and husband Hal of Omaha, NE: step-daughter-in-law, Sandra Goecker of Council Bluffs, IA; two granddaughters: Nancy Watts; and Rachel Durman and husband Mike; seven great-granddaughters; ten great-great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Stella Kelsay of Castle Rock, CO; and Fern Nelson of Denver, CO; nieces and nephews; with other relatives and friends. May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn. Memorial Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Villisca Cemetery, Villisca, Iowa Rev. Nancy Schultz, Officiating Memorials may be directed to the Red Oak First United Methodist Church or the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Foundation.
