Lorene Adelle Swanson, the daughter of A. Frank and Vina Lundberg Sederburg was born January 23, 1918 in Montgomery County, Iowa, south of Red Oak. She passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the Stanton Care Center, Stanton, Iowa, the age of 92 years, 5 months and 13 days. Lorene was raised on a farm located between Nyman and Essex. She graduated from Red Oak High School in l937 and then attended Red Oak Junior College. Lorene taught country school before she was united in marriage to Clifford M. Swanson on March 12, 1939 at the home of her parents in Page County, Iowa. Clifford and Lorene lived on a farm in Page County for a couple years before he entered the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge, they farmed in the Stanton area many years before moving into Stanton in 1963. Lorene worked at the Union Carbide Battery Company in Red Oak and then for Security State Bank in Stanton. She later worked many years as a cook for the Stanton School System. Lorene was a member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church and American Legion Auxiliary Ernie Johnson Post #406 of Stanton. She was an excellent cook and always had a smile on her face. Lorene was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Clifford on November 2, 1999; brother: Ray and 3 sisters: Marjorie, Fern and Violet. Lorene is survived by two sons: Larry Swanson and wife Sue of Lenexa, KS and Jerry Swanson and wife Cathy of Red Oak, IA; 5 grandchildren: Doug and Angie Swanson of Collinwood, TN; Cori and Craig Kalinowski of San Carlos, CA; Laurie and Jeff VanScoy of Red Oak, IA; Wendy and David Ensley of Glenwood, IA; Heidi and Aaron Wendt of Red Oak, IA; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister: Mrs. Nadine Johnson of Stanton, IA; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends.
