Obituary

Mae Virginia Freeman, the daughter of Alex and Della Raney Pickering was born May 4, 1911 in Missouri. She passed away Sunday, September 12, 2010 at the Mt. Ayr Health Center, Mt. Ayr, Iowa at the age of 99 years, 4 months and 8 days. Mae was raised in Missouri until 1922, when she moved with her parents to Red Oak. Mae was united in marriage to Roland Freeman on December 24, 1945 in Troy, Kansas. They made their home on a small farm west of Red Oak. Mae enjoyed gardening and canning the vegetables. She worked for Martin Produce and then the Red Oak School District for 11 years as a school cook. Mae moved to Mt. Ayr, IA in 2005 to be close to family. Mae was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roland on August 29, l986; 2 sons: Merle Pickering and Frank Mueller, Sr.; 8 brothers and 1 sister. Mae is survived by 4 grandchildren: Frank Mueller, Jr. and wife Cathy of Mt. Ayr, IA; Regina Sanchez and husband Erick of Brashear, MO; ReNae Bartenhagen of Corning, IA; and Debbie Engleken and husband Fred of Des Moines, IA; 10 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law: Janet Mueller of Brashear, MO; nieces: Iva Olsen of Lincoln, NE and Rose Griffin of Kansas City, MO; other relatives and friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, IA There will be no visitation or viewing. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
