Obituary

Margaret Leota "Susie" Nelson, the daughter of Fred and Grace Wheeler Watson was born December 14, 1909 in Red Oak, Iowa. She passed away on Monday, December 8, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Society Center, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 98 years, 11 months and 24 days.

Susie lived her entire life in Red Oak. She graduated from Red Oak High School in l927. During her high school years she worked at the local candy shop. Susie was united in marriage to O. Morris Nelson on May 15, 1932 in Pawnee City, Nebraska. She worked as the bookkeeper for Nelson Dairy and after her husband's death in l965, became part owner, until 1971, when the business sold. Susie was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Faith Rebekah Lodge #174 and a charter member of Mother's Club. She was also a member of Eastern Star Oak Chapter #95 where she served as secretary for 26 years. Susie was a busy volunteer with the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and also helped deliver Meals on Wheels. She was a detailed person and over the years enjoyed organizing most of her high school reunions. Susie enjoyed fishing with her husband, baking, taking walks, and most importantly loving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Susie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, O. Morris Nelson on June 22, 1965; son, Donald W. Nelson; daughter, Mary Louise Johnson; brother, Dean R. Watson; and sister, Helen Umphreys.

Susie is survived by her grandchildren: Debbie Comstock and husband Terry of Stratford, IA; Randy Johnson of Essex, IA; Vicki Maher and husband Chris of Omaha, NE; Christine Watkins and husband Seth of Clarinda, IA; and Tracy White and husband Doug of Red Oak, IA; great-grandchildren: Sara Livermore and husband Josh; Andy Comstock; Nicole White; Craig White; Tyler White; Spencer Watkins; and Tatum Watkins; sister: Mrs. Mary Jane Brown of Fort Dodge, IA; son-in-law: Clayton Johnson of Essex, IA; daughter-in-law: Mrs. Jean Nelson of Red Oak, IA; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends.
