Obituary

Marie Mathes, the daughter of Hubert and Eva Taylor Jones was born June 20, 1915 in Fremont County, Iowa. She passed away on Monday, May 9, 2011 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 95 years, 10 months and 19 days. Marie attended schools in Riverton and Farragut, graduating from Farragut High School in l933. She was united in marriage to Frank M. Mathes on November 2, 1934 in Fremont County, Iowa. To this union, two children were born: Eva M. Mathes in l934 and Hubert Dennis Mathes in 1936. Most of their married life, Frank farmed. Marie enjoyed working with people and worked at Jay's Drug Store and McClary's Jewelry Store in Shenandoah, Iowa. In 1955, Frank and Marie purchased a home in Red Oak. She then worked at Schoenberg's Dress Shop as a dress clerk and assistant manager for 15 years. She also worked at the Holiday Inn as desk clerk and night auditor, along with Conner's Store. Marie was an active member of the First United Methodist Church for over 30 years. She was a member of the Oxford Class and United Methodist Women's group. She was also past president of General Federated Women's Club. Marie was a beautiful seamstress and opened up an alteration shop in her home, sewing for people for 12 years. Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank on October 10, l997; daughter, Eva; son, Dennis; brother, Raymond; sisters: Inez Baker and Vi Rendia Wynn; and grandson, Larry Mathes. Marie is survived by her granddaughter, Karen Mathes of Richmond, MO; and great-grandson, Aaren P. Mathes of Richmond, MO; along with other relatives and friends. Private burial will be held in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, Iowa Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
