Obituary

Marigail ""Gail"" Peterson, the daughter of Frank and Martha Graham Lant was born February 23, 1920 at Stronghurst, Illinois. She passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2011 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 91 years, 9 months and 1 day. Gail was raised at Stronghurst, IL and confirmed in the Presbyterian Church there. Her formal education included graduating from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Burlington, IA receiving her R.N. degree in l945. She worked as a private duty nurse for one year before marrying. Gail was united in marriage to Kenneth August Peterson on May 7, 1946 at Stronghurst, IL. To this union was born a daughter Margaret Meg Hoppock. She lived all her married life in Montgomery County residing on a farm north of Stanton for 46 years. Gail practiced her profession for 25 years at Murphy Memorial Hospital later becoming Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, before retiring in 1981. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Red Oak. She served on the Advisory Board of Good Samaritan Society for 10 years, worked with the Red Cross Board for five years and also volunteered at Good Samaritan Society for two years. Early in her residency in Iowa, she enjoyed being a member of Montgomery County Rural Women's Chorus, serving as a 4-H leader, as well as belonging to the Presbyterian Women's Association. Gail enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting and reading. The past five years, Gail was a resident of Stanton Care Center. Gail was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 59 years, Kenneth A. Peterson on June 29, 2005; grandson, Aaron Peterson Hoppock and four sisters. Gail is survived by her daughter, Margaret ""Meg"" Hoppock of Stanton, IA; granddaughter, Katelynn Elena Hoppock-Cogen and husband Stuart of the U.K.; grandson, Kenneth Ross Hoppock of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law, LaDonna Hogberg and husband John of Omaha, NE; five nephews: David Yates, John Lyons, Wendell Oliver, Mark Hogberg and Merle Hogberg; niece, Janiece Sizemore; cousins, other relatives and a host of friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Monday, November 28, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Rev. Caryn Pedersen, Officiating Visitation with the family present on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Memorials to the Red Oak Presbyterian Church Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
