Marilyn Norma Younggren, the daughter of Glen C. and Florence M. (King) Jackson was born August 18, 1936 in Montgomery County, Iowa. She went to her heavenly home on January 22, 2015 while at her winter home on South Padre Island, Texas, at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 4 days. Marilyn attended County Stewart School and graduated from Villisca High School in 1953. After high school, she worked at Houghton State Bank, Montgomery County National Bank, First Federal Savings and AgPro. Marilyn was united in marriage to Norman Lawrence Younggren from Essex, Iowa on December 22, 1957 in Bertrand, Nebraska. To this union three children were born: Brent, Nancy and Craig. They raised their family at the Younggren farm north of Essex and moved into Essex in 1979. Marilyn was a member of the Fremont Lutheran Church, Nyman. She taught Sunday School, served as church treasurer and was a member of the Priscilla Circle, WLCA, Maple Grove Club and the Merry Mixers Club. Marilyn enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life and her hands were always busy with sewing, quilting and crafts. She also loved to fish and travel with her husband and family, along with enjoying their retirement years wintering at South Padre Island, Texas. She enjoyed playing cards with her kids and grandkids. She always knew the rules, and was often called upon to keep score because of her bookkeeping background. She was known for her distinctive voice, laugh and walk. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Margaret Tiede; brother, Ronald Jackson; granddaughter, Bailey Jean Buechner; brother-in-law, Keith Peterson; sisters-in-law: Betty Younggren and Marcia Younggren. Marilyn is survived by her husband of 57 years, Norman Younggren of Essex, IA; and her children: Brent (Jolene) of Essex, IA; Nancy (David) Buechner of Sarasota, FL; and Craig (Kerri) Younggren of Lenexa, KS; grandchildren: Jacob (Allie) Younggren of Olathe, KS; Matthew (Kelsey) Younggren of Cedar Rapids, IA; Morgan and MacKenzie Buechner of Sarasota, FL; Katelyn Younggren of Roeland Park, KS; Daniel and Thomas Younggren of Lenexa, KS; and great-grandchildren: Mason and Beau Younggren of Olathe, KS. She also leaves two sisters: Janice (Ronald) Scott of Bloomington, IL and Lois Jean Peterson of Stanton, IA; sister-in-law, Deloris Jackson of Red Oak, IA; and brother-in-law, Robert Younggren of Clarinda, IA. She will be missed by her family members, many nieces, nephews, and dear friends both at home in Essex, IA and at her winter home at Tiki on South Padre Island, TX.
