Marjorie Lorraine Ayres, the daughter of Grover and Alice (Carlson) Peterson was born March 8, 1923 at Vona, Colorado. She passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020 at the Red Oak Rehab and Care Center, Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 97 years, 9 months and 3 days.
Marjorie graduated from Essex High School in 1940. On November 23, 1941, Marjorie was united in marriage to Howard Duane "Stub" Ayres in Maryville, MO and on December 7, 1941, they made Red Oak their home. Marjorie worked for Woolworths, at a supply store, and grocery store, before she and Stub built and operated the A&W. They then owned and operated the Green Parrott, and later the Crest Clothing Store for many years. Following the sales of their businesses, she worked for Brown's Shoe Store. Marjorie enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, reading and working puzzle books. She and Stub loved going to Las Vegas and Ak-Sar-Ben horse races. Marjorie was a member of the First Christian Church, a past member of Red Oak Monday Club, Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary where she volunteered in the Lemon Tree, and the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stub on December 25, 1996, brother, Ralph Peterson and three sisters: Arlene Young, Norma Hearron and Helen Stine.
Marjorie is survived by her three children: Richard (Pam) Ayres of Red Oak, IA, Connie (David) Berggren of Red Oak, IA and Beverly (Terry) Lantz of Urbandale, IA; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial Graveside Service will be held
Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 1:00 p.m.
Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, Iowa
Family and friends may meet at the cemetery for the service.
Memorials to the First Christian Church or Red Oak Fire & Rescue Association.
Service will be live streamed on Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Facebook page. Facial coverings and social distancing will be required.
Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
