Obituary

Marjorie May Carlson was the third child of Glenn and Ruby (Peterman) Combs. She was born September 30, 1927 in rural Taylor County, Iowa near Gravity. Marjorie passed away on Friday, September 11, 2015 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 87 years, 11 months and 12 days. Marjorie attended Ladoga country school with her siblings and started high school in Gravity, Iowa. After her second year of high school, her family bought a farm near Stanton. In 1945, Marjorie graduated from Stanton High School. Following graduation, she began working in Omaha, Nebraska with Western Union. Marjorie was united in marriage to Marvin Carlson on February 12, 1949 at her parent's farm house. This date was also the 25th wedding anniversary for Glenn and Ruby. Marjorie and Marvin have lived in the Stanton area their entire married life. Through the years, Marjorie helped with the Boy Scouts, Red Cross Bloodmobile and was very active with the Democratic Party. She was a member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church; was very active with the Stanton American Legions Auxiliary, having served as president for many terms; and enjoyed reading. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dorothy French; and three brothers: Dean, Darrell and Allen. Marjorie is survived by her husband of 66 years, Marvin Carlson of Stanton, IA; son, Mark Carlson of Stanton, IA; and daughter, Susan Carlson of Stanton, IA; two grandchildren: Amanda (Michael) Bedsworth and Mikeal Carlson; sisters: Carolyn Rodaway of Lincoln, NE; and Irene Brown of Long Beach, MS; and sister-in-law, Jeanette Kalasky of LaVista, NE; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Mamrelund Lutheran Church, Stanton, Iowa Burial in the Mamre Cemetery, Stanton Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli, Officiating Visitation with the family will be held Monday evening at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Mamrelund Lutheran Church. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
