Obituary

Marjorie Marie Miller, the daughter of Hans and Florence (Askey) Martens was born July 1, 1932 near Lyman in Cass County, Iowa. She passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Accura Healthcare in Stanton, Iowa at the age of 84 years and 11 months.

Marjorie was raised in the Lyman, Iowa area. In 1950, she graduated from Griswold High School and began working at Houghton State Bank in Red Oak, until her marriage. On December 6, 1958, Marjorie was united in marriage to James Miller at St. John's Church near Lyman. They made their home in rural Stanton where Marjorie was a homemaker while the children lived at home. After the nest was empty, Marjorie began working for the Montgomery County Iowa State Extension office, from which she retired after serving 10 years. Marjorie and James moved into Red Oak in 1982. Marjorie enjoyed collecting dishes, reading, listening to and playing music. She served many years as the church pianist and organist for Tabor Lutheran Church at Wallin. In retirement, Marjorie and James loved traveling with bus tours, making trips to all the states except Florida. Her favorite trips however, were the trips to Branson, Missouri. Marjorie was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and a past volunteer for the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, helping in the Lemon Tree gift shop.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bernard.

Marjorie is survived by her husband, James Miller of Red Oak, IA; four children: Michelle (Charles) Morton of Des Moines, IA; Michael (Stephanie) Miller of Council Bluffs, IA; Marten (Delia) Miller of Chino Hills, CA; and Rebecca (Stephen) Peterson of Stanton, IA; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
