Obituary

Marjorie Agnes Sellergren, the daughter of Herbert and Nellie (Johnson) Isaacson was born July 13, 1920 in Montgomery County, Iowa, south of Stanton on the family farm. She passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 96 years, 3 months and 10 days.

Marjorie graduated from Stanton High School in 1937. She continued her education at Red Oak Junior College, graduating in 1939, and began her teaching career at rural schools. Marjorie was united in marriage to John Donovan Sellergren on June 20, 1943 at Mamrelund Lutheran Church, Stanton, Iowa. After Donovan's honorable discharge from the Army in l945, they made their home near Stanton, and in 1947 moved to a farm south of Stanton. In 1966, Marjorie earned her education degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She taught school for the Stanton district for 5 years, Villisca district for 4 years and Red Oak district for 16 years before retiring. Marjorie was a member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir, and was active in WELCA, all for many years. Marjorie was also a member of Ernie Johnson Post 406 Auxiliary, Entre Nous and 20 th Century Federated Club all of Stanton. Marjorie enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, music, and refinishing furniture. She and Donovan loved traveling in their retirement years, having traveled all over the world.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donovan on June 8, 2008; brother, Clifford Isaacson; and brother-in-law, Leland Sellergren and his wife, Marian.

Marjorie is survived by son, John Sellergren of Stanton, IA; daughters: Ruth and husband Dale Vander Schaaf of Ames, IA and Martha and husband David Cole of Meeker, CO; grandchildren: Kristen Vander Schaaf and husband Scott Samet of Ames, IA; Diana and husband Todd Givens of Des Moines, IA; Nathan Vander Schaaf of Ames, IA; Emily and husband Chris DeFoor of Fort Collins, CO; Susan and husband Brandon Darr of Homer, AK; Marie and husband Aaron Zimenoff of Fort Collins, CO; 9 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Isaacson of Sauk Rapids, MN; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation with the family present on Friday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home
