Mark Douglas Berggren, the son of David and Connie (Ayres) Berggren, was born on October 28, 1969, in Red Oak, Iowa. He passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 56 years, 8 months, and 10 days.
Mark was raised in Red Oak and graduated from Red Oak High School in 1988. After graduation, he began working for ServiceMaster in Omaha, Nebraska, and later transferred to Arizona, where he continued with the company for several years. Upon returning to Red Oak, he worked at Traco, Johnson Controls, and for the past several years, Red Oak Greenhouse.
A true outdoorsman, Mark had a passion for collecting rocks and unique pieces of natural wood, especially tree branches and driftwood. He was a skilled craftsman who enjoyed building bluebird houses and was always tinkering with a new project. Music was an important part of his life, and he had an incredible memory for song titles, artists, and lyrics spanning many decades and genres. He was also an avid movie enthusiast - quote him a line from a film, and he could almost always name the movie. Mark was easygoing, enjoyed visiting with everyone he met, never knew a stranger, and was known as a wonderful storyteller.
Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents and stepson, Dylan Brown.
He is survived by his son, Jacob Berggren of Omaha, Nebraska; parents, David and Connie Berggren of Red Oak, Iowa; sisters, ReNea Berggren (Mike Oakleaf) of Red Oak, Iowa, and Kelly Ward (Marcus Shorney) of Papillion, Nebraska; niece, Josselyn Ward; and his companion, Meri Kling and her children, Sadi, Mayci, Lilli, and Aubri Magnuson; as well as aunts, uncles, extended family members, and many friends.
Mark will be remembered for his kind heart, his love of the outdoors, his creativity, his remarkable memory for music and movies, and the conversations and stories he shared so generously with everyone whose lives he touched.
May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn.
Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Red Oak, Iowa.
