Obituary

Marlys Faye Jones, the daughter of Jefferson C. and Hazel (Kramer) Brown was born August 7, 1935 in Fargo, North Dakota. She passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak, Iowa, the age of 77 years, 10 months and 18 days. Marlys was raised in Oakes, North Dakota until the 8th grade. At that time, the family moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota, where she attended school. Her parents were owners of the Pepsi Cola Bottling Company and she went to work for them as a bookkeeper. Marlys was united in marriage to Billy O. Jones on April 11, 1958 in Redfield, South Dakota. In 1972, Marlys and Bill made Red Oak their home. She was an avid bowler and an inductee into the Red Oak Women's Bowling Hall of Fame. Marlys also enjoyed the many bowling trips to state and national tournaments with friends, and playing BINGO. She loved all sports, especially cheering for the Chicago Cubs and Iowa State Cyclones. Marlys was a collector, accumulating over 500 pig items. She was a member of the Red Oak County Club and active playing in their Thursday Bridge Club. Marlys was a long time member of All Angles Episcopal Church and most recently, Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Red Oak. She treasured her family and friends, but her grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a special place in her heart. Marlys was preceded in death by her parents; twin sister, Corliss Mae Brown; sister, Bonnie Brown and brother, Jeff Brown. Marlys is survived by her husband, Billy Jones of Red Oak, IA; son, Joseph Jones of Red Oak, IA; and daughter, Karen Jones of Stanton, IA; 4 grandchildren: Cheryl Jones of Red Oak, IA; Lindsey Hudson of Urbandale, IA; Jenny Gettler and husband Caleb of Stanton, IA and Chris Jones of Stanton, IA; 6 great-grandchildren: Alexa, Hunter and Brooklyn Gilleland of Red Oak, IA; and Evan, Addelyn and Owen Gettler of Stanton, IA; brother, Don Brown and wife Pat of Winterset, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, June 28, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak, IA Private family burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, IA Rev. Artis Ferrel & Pastor Jim Petersen, Officiating Visitation with the family present on Thursday evening, June 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Family requests memorials in lieu of flowers to Iowa Hospice, Red Oak Good Samaritan Society or Eagles Lodge. Services entrusted to Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home.
