Obituary

Marvin Leroy Carlson, the son of Roy and Daisy (Peterson) Carlson was born September 9, 1926 at Stanton, Iowa. He passed away on Friday, February 8, 2019 at his son's home in Griswold, IA at the age of 92 years, 4 months and 30 days.

Marvin was raised in the Stanton area. He graduated from Stanton High School in l945 and entered the U.S. Army. Marvin served his country during WW II and following his honorable discharge, returned to Stanton and began farming. Marvin was united in marriage to Marjorie M. Combs on February 12, 1949 at New Market, Iowa. Marvin and Marjorie made their home on their farm, where they raised their family. In his younger years, Marvin enjoyed playing pitch with his friends. He was quite a carpenter and shared his skills with many by building children's playhouses. Marvin enjoyed scrapbooking, collecting coins and stamps, and NASCAR. For a time during his retirement years, you could find Marvin working as a bartender at Mabel's Palace in Stanton. Marvin was a member of Mamrelund Lutheran Church and for 70 years, a member of American Legion Ernie Johnson Post 406 in Stanton.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Marjorie on September 11, 2015.

Marvin is survived by his two children: Mark (Lisa) Carlson of Griswold, IA and Susan Carlson of Stanton, IA; three grandchildren: Amanda (Michael) Bedsworth of Clarinda, IA, Mikeal Carlson of Clarinda, IA and Ashlee (Chris) Jones of Omaha, NE; 3 great-grandchildren and sister, Jeanette Kalasky of Omaha, NE; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation with the family on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project.
