Marvin Dale Embree, the son of Clifford and Mary Soyer Embree was born May 12, 1928 in Grant, Iowa. He passed away on Friday, January 14, 2011 at his home in rural Elliott, Iowa at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 2 days. Marvin was raised in the Grant area and graduated from Grant High School. On February 1, 1948, Marvin was united in marriage to Evelyn Mae 'Peg' Euans in Red Oak, Iowa. Marvin served his country during the Korean War with the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged on March 31, 1960. Marvin loved the land and farmed his entire life along with being a seed corn dealer for many years. For a time, Marvin also worked at Earl May Seed Company in Shenandoah, Iowa helping in the seed and fertilizer departments. Marvin and Peg made their home on their farm for 45 years. He enjoyed reading, playing cards and traveling with his family. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Carol Embree. Marvin is survived by two children: Allen D. Embree of Massena, IA; and Carla Nielsen and husband Mike of Treynor, IA; 5 grandchildren: Melissa and Sarah Nielsen; Stefany Erickson and husband Travis; Libby Butcher and husband Justin; and Walker Embree; 2 step-grandchildren: Ryan Jensen and Jessica McClaskey; 2 great-grandchildren: Brody Erickson and Payton Butcher; sister: Beverly Walker of Atlantic, IA; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and a host of friends. Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the Elliott Community Center from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Luncheon will be served during this time for those in attendance. Private family burial will be at a later date in Hillside Cemetery, Elliott, IA A memorial is being established. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
