Obituary

Marvin Eugene Johnson, the son of Herbert and Gertrude Swanson Johnson was born September 28, 1924 in Page County, Iowa. He passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa, the age of 86 years, 11 months and 20 days. Marvin was born on a farm in Page County. In March of 1931, the family moved to a farm near Nyman. In 1942, Marvin graduated from Essex High School. He worked on the family farm from 1942 until 1948. Marvin was united in marriage to Jean Landstrom on February 1, 1948 in Red Oak, Iowa. Marvin and Jean lived on four farms before moving to Jean's home place south of Red Oak in 1973. They made this farm their home for 38 years. Marvin loved farming and was a farmer all his life, even up to the time of his passing. For 25 years, Marvin served as a 4-H leader, having received numerous leadership awards. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, having served as a Sunday school teacher and board member. Marvin was a past board member for Farmers Mercantile, serving nine years on their board, four of those years as president. He also had served ASC as a township and county committee member. Marvin enjoyed visiting with people, as he knew no stranger. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Claire and Virgil. Marvin is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean Johnson of rural Red Oak, IA; daughter, Roberta Johnson of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law, Maxine Johnson of Essex, IA; nephews: Kirk Johnson and wife Annette of Red Oak, IA and Mark Johnson of Highlands Ranch, CO; niece, Lynn Cross and husband Brad of Saline, MI; great-nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Red Oak Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Rev. Dr. George Hooper and Rev. John Swenson, Officiating Visitation with the family present on Tuesday evening, Sept. 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
