Mary Anna Chapman, the daughter of Erick G. and Mary (Rossander) Franzen was born April 3, 1941 at Red Oak, Iowa. She passed away on Monday, October 10, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 7 days.
Mary was raised in the Red Oak, Elliott and Griswold areas. She graduated in 1958 from Wales-Lincoln High School, Wales, Iowa and moved to Delaware where she worked as a secretary. In 1970, she returned to Iowa. On April 1, 1972, Mary was united in marriage to Andrew Zane Chapman at Harrison, Arkansas. They lived in Branson, Missouri, where Mary worked in a garment factory. In 1984, she and Andrew moved to Malvern, Iowa. In l988, Mary began a 20-year career at the Glenwood State School with the food service department. Following her retirement in 2008, Mary worked at the Malvern Senior Center. Later in 2008, Mary made her home in Red Oak, where she enjoyed teaching water aerobics at the Montgomery County Family YMCA. Mary's hobbies included crocheting, dancing and listening to country music. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and past member of the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, volunteering in the Lemon Tree gift shop.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Andrew Chapman on November 28, 2002; step-sons: Michael, Andrew C. and William Chapman; step-daughter, Jean Johnson; brother, Swaine Franzen; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Mary is survived by her son, James (Brittney) Chapman of Davenport, IA; step-sons: Warren (Donna) Chapman of Council Bluffs, IA and Kenneth Chapman of Shenandoah, IA; step-daughters: LuAnn (Rick) Nease of Red Oak, IA and Mary (Richard) Lanning of Wymore, NE; several step-grandchildren and many step-great-grandchildren; brother, Bernie Franzen and friend Nettie of Forest City, MO; sister-in-law, Betty Chapman of Massena, IA; brothers-in-law: Lewis Chapman of Wiota, IA and Virgil Boos of Cumberland, IA; and special friend, Tom Hiers and his sons of Council Bluffs, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
