Mary Halvin, the daughter of Einer and Karin Kindberg Johnson, was born November 17, 1919 in Stanton, Iowa. She died on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Center, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 88 years and 17 days. Mary was raised in Stanton and graduated from Stanton High School. While in high school, she worked as a housekeeper for Dr. Hanson. Mary was united in marriage to Russell C. Halvin on November 21, 1936 in Rockport, Missouri. They soon made their home in Red Oak, where they operated the Halvin Dairy until 1940. During WW II, while Russell was serving in the military, Mary worked at Wholesale and Fruit Grocery in Red Oak. Following Russell's return home from the service, they started up their business, Halvin Trucking Company. She served as the company bookkeeper for 55 years. Mary loved her family dearly; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to her. In Mary's free time, she had fun attending garage sales and looking for those bargains. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Red Oak. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell on February 8, 2003; sister, Helen; and 6 brothers: Burt, Lloyd, Robert, John, Darrell and Einer Jr. Mary is survived by son, R.R. "Bud" Halvin and wife Joyce of Red Oak, IA; two grandson: Terry Halvin of Council Bluffs, IA; and Fred Halvin and wife Tracy of Austin, MN; six great-grandchildren: Ryan, Brandon, Tyler, Tannah, Dana and Drew; three brothers: Fred Johnson, Jack Johnson and Lambert Johnson all of Medford, OR; other relatives and a host of friends.
