Mary Jane Lewis, the daughter of Bert W. and Genevra E. Parsons Madden was born May 31, 1938 in Montgomery County, Iowa northeast of Red Oak. She passed away Friday, July 16, 2010 at the Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 72 years, 1 month and 16 days. During Mary's childhood, she lived in Montgomery County and later several other Iowa towns before graduating from Exira High School, Exira, Iowa. Mary was united in marriage to Karen B. Lewis on April 21, l957 in Red Oak, Iowa. Throughout their life together, they made their home in several communities in southwest Iowa, Red Oak, Elliott, Atlantic, and Emerson, before moving to Red Oak in 2005. Mary was a CNA, working a few years at Hillside Manor in Glenwood and 15 years at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. While living in the Elliott area she was involved with the Women's Club. Mary enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, and was a collector of porcelain dolls and teddy bears. She had a green thumb and special 'knack' for growing house plants. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers: John Madden and an infant brother, Robert. Mary is survived by her husband, Karen B. Lewis of Red Oak, IA; 5 children: James Lewis and wife Debbie of Shenandoah, IA; Robert Lewis and friend Ronna of Bellevue, NE; Rodney Lewis and wife Rhonda of Carroll, IA; Rebecca Marcotte of Omaha, NE; and Stephen Lewis and wife Lou of Coin, IA; 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers: Larry Madden and wife Judy of Atlantic, IA; Bert Madden and wife Bev of Carroll, IA; and Tom Madden and wife Bonnie of Exira, IA; several nieces and nephews along with other relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak Visitation with the family present will be on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Memorials to the Red Oak Fire & Rescue.
