Obituary

Helen Maxine Johnson, the daughter of J. E. (Ed) and Nellie (Lindstedt) Larson was born March 25, 1923 in Red Oak, Iowa. She passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 93 years, 7 months and 17 days.

Maxine graduated from Red Oak High School in l940 and attended Red Oak Junior College. She was united in marriage to John Virgil Johnson on December 9, 1953 at Red Oak, Iowa. For 63 years, Maxine and Virgil made their farm southeast of Nyman their home. Maxine worked many years for the Billings Law Firm in Red Oak during income tax season and for the Page County Abstract & Title Company in Clarinda. She was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting with the ladies circles of the Fremont Lutheran Church. Maxine and Virgil loved traveling the United States, along with many other countries around the world. She was an active member of the Fremont Lutheran Church at Nyman and the Study and Service Club of Essex. Maxine dearly loved and treasured her family, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed attending many of their activities.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Virgil Johnson on November 12, 2010; brother, Dean Larson and his wife Jean; an infant brother, and brothers-in-law: Marvin Johnson and Clair Johnson and his wife Phyllis.

Maxine is survived by her son, Kirk Johnson and his wife Annette of Red Oak, IA; 3 grandchildren: Darin (Alicia) Johnson of rural Essex, IA; Adam (Kelcy) Johnson of Omaha, NE; and Meredith (Brian) Hamman of Red Oak, IA; 4 great-grandchildren: Ella and Natalie Johnson, Katelyn Johnson and Beckett Hamman; and sister-in-law, Jean Johnson of Red Oak, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Burial at Mt Hope Cemetery, Nyman

Visitation with the family present on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the Fremont Lutheran Church.
