Maynard Barnette Dahl, the son of Holger A. and Gudrun M. (Winther) Dahl was born April 23, 1935 at Atlantic, Iowa. He passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at his home in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 20 days. Maynard was raised at Villisca, Iowa and graduated from high school in 1953 at Elliott, Iowa. He entered the U. S. Army in 1955, serving for 3 years before transferring to the U. S. Air Force. He traveled to many bases while in the Air Force. Maynard was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Kelly on January 19, 1959 at Griswold, Iowa. His last assignment was at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, Nebraska. Maynard retired with 21 years of service in l976. Maynard moved to Council Bluffs in 1978. He then went to work for the University of Nebraska Medical Center in the animal research department, serving 20 years. Maynard loved playing his guitar and was in a band, "The Country Sunshine Band", playing at many events and festivals. He was inducted in the Iowa State Country Music Hall of Fame in 2013. Maynard was an artist, painting many pictures for family and friends. Maynard was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Mary Ellen on February 21, 1978. Maynard is survived by his daughters: Angela France of Papillion, NE and Debra (Joe) Dahl of Pacific Junction, IA; companion, Jolene Jones of Council Bluffs, IA; 6 grandchildren: Tara Dahl, Timothy Clouser, Mary Clouser, Brian Garcia III, Brandon Garcia and Nichole Nelles; 5 great-grandchildren: Kayleigh Dahl, Kassidy Young, Kevin Young, Violet Nelles and Addison Grace Plumb; brothers: Dennis "Pete" (Diana) Dahl of Lewis, IA and Larry Dahl of Red Oak, IA; nephew, Montgomery Dahl; other relatives and friends. Dr. George Hooper, Officiating Visitation with the family on Thursday, April 16, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak Memorials to the American Cancer Society or Wounded Warrior Project.
