Melvin Paul Hogberg, the son of Paul S. and Mabel R. Carlson Hogberg was born December 28, 1929 in Montgomery County, Iowa. Melvin passed away on Monday, April 13, 2009 at the Stanton Care Center, Stanton, Iowa at the age of 79 years, 3 months and 16 days. Melvin was raised in the Stanton area, graduating from Stanton High School in l949. He began farming and carpenter work after graduation. He was united in marriage to Doris P. Golay on June 6, 1954 in Stanton, IA. In 1958, they moved to a farm south of Red Oak where they made their home and raised their three sons. Along with growing crops in his farming operation, Melvin raised cattle and hogs. Melvin served eight years in the Iowa Army National Guard. He enjoyed a lifetime of carpentry work. Melvin was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Stanton, Gideon's International, Montgomery County Farm Bureau, and a past member of the Montgomery County Pork Producers. February of 2007, Melvin became a resident of Stanton Care Center. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Doris on July 12, 2006. Melvin is survived by sons: Greg Hogberg and wife Becky of Red Oak, IA; Doug Hogberg and wife Cheryl of Stanton, IA; Gary Hogberg and special friend Barb Luiken of Elkhorn, IA; 6 grandchildren: Nicholas, Molly, Alyssa, Derick, Kelsey and Kayla; brother, John Hogberg and wife LaDonna of Omaha, NE; brother-in-law, George Golay and wife Mariam of Cedar Rapids, IA; sister-in-law, Mrs. Alice Garvin of Des Moines, IA; other relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church, Stanton, Iowa Burial in Mission Covenant Cemetery Rev. Paul Warder, Officiating Memorials may be made in Melvin's memory to Heartland Hospice. Visitation with the family present Thursday evening at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
