Obituary

Melvin David Woods, the son of Merrill and Ethel Coon Woods, was born February 17, 1930 in Red Oak, Iowa. He passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 6 days. Melvin was raised in Red Oak and attended Red Oak Schools. He entered the U. S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He returned to Red Oak after his military service. Melvin was united in marriage to Inez R. Dickey on December 5, 1954 in Red Oak, Iowa. In 1969, Melvin, Inez and their boys made their home in Colorado, returning back to Red Oak in 1973. Melvin was a hard working independent truck driver, who always took time each day after school to take his boys out for coffee. Melvin enjoyed camping and spending time with his family; he was also an avid football fan. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Inez on October 28, 2005; sister, Mildred Keat; and brother, Maurice "Mike" Woods. Melvin is survived by his three sons: Dr. Mark Woods and wife Elizabeth of Morrison, IL; Keith Woods of Manhattan, KS; and Doug Woods of Georgetown, CO; grandchildren: Carl and Ray Woods; sister, Jo Marcusson of Red Oak, IA; and sister-in-law, Marie Woods; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Visitation with the family present on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home A memorial is being established in Melvin's name. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
