Merlin Lawrence Green, son of Everett and Clara (Nicolaus) Green was born December 14, 1940 at Stuart, Nebraska. He passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 9 days. Merlin was raised at Naper, Nebraska and graduated in 1959 from Naper High School. On September 17, 1961, Merlin was united in marriage to Ellen J. Grohs at Sioux City, Iowa. Merlin and Ellen lived in many towns in the Midwest as he was a store manager for Scotts Stores. He later became a feed salesman covering northeast Nebraska. In 1990, Merlin and Ellen moved to Red Oak, where he was a salesman for Golden Sun Feed and AFLAC Insurance. Merlin was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Shenandoah. He had also served for 12 years on the board for the Nebraska Evangelical Lutheran High School. Merlin enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, fishing and was an avid Nebraska Football fan. He was preceded in death by his parents. Merlin is survived by his wife, Ellen Green of Red Oak, IA; children: Greg (Donna) Green of Omaha, NE, Jeff (Kristi) Green of Lincoln, NE and Vicki (Jeff) Schaaf of Broken Bow, NE; 7 grandchildren: Scott (Becca) Green, Sarah (Nick) Dodenhof, Sam Green, Jacob Green, Jon Green, Mia Schaaf and Jessica Schaaf; 3 great-grandchildren: Morgan Green, Sydney Green and William Dodenhof; brothers: Marlan (Joan) Green of Burke, SD and Dennis Green of Rapid City, SD; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sioux City, Iowa Burial in Graceland Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa Pastor Tom Jeske, Officiating Prayer service will be held Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home with visitation to follow with the family.
