Michael J. Scanlan, the son of John T. and Connie R. Hoyt Scanlan was born February 4, 1961 in Atlantic, Iowa. He passed away suddenly on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 51 years, 8 months and 28 days. Michael was raised in Red Oak, graduating with the Red Oak High School class of 1980. Following graduation, he worked at Eveready Battery Company in Red Oak before moving to Shenandoah, and then Boston, MA where he worked construction. After returning back to Red Oak, Michael was united in marriage on February 4, 1994 to Theresa J. Mutchler in Red Oak. Michael was a hard worker and at different times worked several jobs. He'd worked for Larson Plumbing, Red Oak Die Casting, Inman Primary School, Super 8, City View and Valley View Apartments and for the city of Red Oak with the cemetery department. He enjoyed drawing and was a fine artist. Michael loved his family and grandchildren dearly. Michael was preceded in death by his brother-in-law and best friend, Rick Mutchler. Michael is survived by his wife, Theresa J. Scanlan of Red Oak, IA; three children: Trevor Scanlan and fiancée Jessica of Shenandoah, IA; Sunshine Radcliff and fiancé Richard Delgado of Red Oak, IA; and Michael ""P.J."" Scanlan of Red Oak, IA; five grandchildren: Alex, Emilie, Daniel, Christopher and Tyler; mother, Connie Sparr of Red Oak, IA; father, John Scanlan and wife Pat of Kerrville, TX; two brothers: Larry Scanlan of Omaha, NE; and Michael's twin brother, Mark Scanlan and wife Teri of Red Oak, IA; mother-in-law, Norma Tichy of Red Oak, IA; brothers-in-law: Jeff Mutchler and wife Loraine of Redding, CA; and Tim Tichy and wife Angie of Omaha, NE; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends. May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Church, Red Oak Rev. JoAnn Thomas, Officiating Viewing and Visitation with the family present on Tuesday evening, November 6 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home.
