Edna Nadine Nelson, the daughter of Erick Robert Nelson and Edna Viola Josephine (Wallin) Nelson was born September 11, 1928 at her parents' home in the North Page area of Page County, Iowa. She passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society, Villisca, Iowa at the age of 87 years, 5 months and 3 days. She was the youngest of four children.
Nadine was baptized at the Bethesda Lutheran Church on October 7, 1928 by Pastor Ralph D. Hult. She was confirmed on May 31, 1942 by Pastor Alfred R. W. Grossmann. She began her schooling at the North Page School for four years, then finished her elementary schooling at Niles School in Page County. Nadine attended Villisca High School where she graduated with the class of 1946. After high school, she worked in Des Moines for the New England Mutual Life Insurance Company for three years. Nadine attended Simpson College in Indianola where she received her Normal Teaching Certificate. She taught in rural schools for four years in Page and Montgomery Counties.
Nadine was married on June 19, 1949 at Clarinda, Iowa, to Mervin Theodore Nelson. The couple lived in Corning, Iowa, for two years before moving to Red Oak, Iowa, where they lived the rest of their lives. Nadine worked at the Montgomery Country Treasurer's Office from 1960 to 1966. In 1966, she began working at the (ASCS) Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service office, now known as the Farm Service Agency in Red Oak. She retired in 1989 after twenty-three years working for the federal government. Nadine was a member of the Red Oak Monday Club and a past member of the Rebekah Lodge, serving as an officer for both. She liked traveling to Branson, Missouri with her family and friends to enjoy shows at the Branson theatres, along with the opportunity to visit Hawaii twice.
Nadine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mervin on May 24, 1997; son, Jeffery Nelson; grandson, Kirk Nelson; brother, Wendell Nelson and wife Alma Mae; brothers-in-law: Orvis Wagaman and Earl Schenck; sister-in-law, Marie Stinemates and husband Linley; and mother-in-law, Verna (Ubil) Nelson.
Nadine is survived by her children: Terry Maly and husband Gary of Olathe KS; Trudy Nelson of Red Oak, IA; Vance Nelson and wife Dang of Clarinda, IA; and Todd Nelson of Red Oak, IA; grandchildren: Jason Maly and wife Robyn of Lincoln, NE; Alisa Eichorn and husband Doug of Jefferson City, MO; Cheyanne Uhlenberg and husband Alex of Ames, IA; and Shelby Nelson of Villisca, IA; three great grandchildren: Shawn Morrison of Lincoln, NE; and Cooper and Avery Maly of Lincoln, NE; sisters: Genevieve Schenck of Clarinda, IA and Carolyn Wagaman of Omaha, NE; many nieces, nephews and cousins, other relatives and friends.

Burial in the Bethesda Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
