Obituary

Nellie Jean Oliver, the daughter of James and Nellie Harvey Ferguson, was born July 6, 1919 in Webster, Nebraska. She passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at the Stanton Care Center, Stanton, Iowa at the age of 92 years, 5 months and 29 days. Jean was raised in Fremont, Nebraska where she graduated from high school. She furthered her education by attending two years at Midland College and then banking school. Following her education, Jean moved to Red Oak where she began a career in banking by working for Houghton State Bank. Jean was united in marriage to Wayne M. Oliver on March 24, 1946 in Fremont, NE. In 1947, they moved to a farm north of Stanton, and in 1961 made their home in Stanton. In 1961, Jean went to work for Security State Bank. She moved to Regency Retirement Residence in Red Oak in 1993. Jean was a member of Mamrelund Lutheran Church and was active in WELCA. She was a former member of the 20th Century club, book club and active with the Stanton Senior Center. Jean enjoyed reading books, newspapers and playing cards. She became a resident of Stanton Care Center in 2010. Jean was preceded by her parents; husband Wayne on April 24, 1993; two sisters: Margaret Ann McKenzie and Lois Siert. Jean is survived by five children: Jim Oliver of Lincoln, NE; Nancy Pickett of Oakley, CA; JoAnn Oliver of Omaha, NE; Sandra Warden of Council Bluffs, IA; and Carol Thompson and husband Gary of Springfield, MO; two grandchildren: Rachel Hieronymus and husband Art; and David Pickett and wife Jessica; two great-grandchildren: Jack and Cole; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli, Officiating Visitation with the family present on Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Memorials to Mamrelund Lutheran Church or The Viking Center Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
