Obituary

Nicholas Fekete, the son of Stephen and Meri (Chapej) Fekete was born November 24, 1928 at Bobtown, Pennsylvania. He passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017 in the presence of his beloved family by his side at Jennie Edmundson Hospital, Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 89 years and 8 days.
Nicholas was raised in Pennsylvania. In December of 1946, he followed in the footsteps of his older brothers who served in WW II by joining the U.S. Air Force. After three years of active duty, he was honorably discharged and returned home to work, but at the start of the Korean conflict, re-enlisted in the Army and served others as a medic. He proudly served his country for 20 years, during both Korea and Vietnam and retired from active duty in 1968. Nicholas was united in marriage to Anna Elisabeth Gandorfer on July 1, 1954 in Munich, Germany. Following his honorable discharge, they returned to his hometown in Pennsylvania. Eventually upon request of his daughter, Nicholas and Anna moved to southwest Iowa where he worked for Oakview Construction, Uniroyal, and attended Iowa Western Community College to become a machinist. After Nicholas and Anna fully retired they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. In 2008, they returned to Red Oak to be in the company of his extended family. Nicholas enjoyed bowling and was inducted into the National Bowling Hall of Fame. He especially loved spending time with family and working in his yard.
Nicholas was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; four sisters and a great-granddaughter, Ashley Fekete.
Nicholas is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anna Fekete of Red Oak, IA; daughter, Elisabeth Houtchens of Emerson IA; son, Steven Fekete and wife Linda of Indianapolis, IN; 7 grandchildren; 11-great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Adam Fekete of Cleveland, OH; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
