Obituary

Norma Muriel Mercer, the daughter of Edward Everett and Sylvia (Kemp) Larrabee was born August 18, 1924, in Normal, Illinois. She passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021, at her residence in West Des Moines, Iowa, the age of 97 years, 2 months, and 20 days.

Norma was raised in Normal, Illinois, and graduated from Normal High School in 1942. She lived in Omaha, Nebraska, before being united in marriage to Orval Mercer on May 1, 1946, in Hiawatha, Kansas. In 1947, Orval and Norma made their home on their farm west of Stanton, Iowa. She was a homemaker and involved in their children's many activities. Norma enjoyed baking, cooking and mostly, spending time with family. In May of 2017, she moved to West Des Moines, Iowa, to be closer to family. Norma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orval on December 11, 2005; two brothers and four sisters.

Norma is survived by her son, Dorsen (Kathy) Mercer of Stone Mountain, GA; and daughter, Jenice (Gary) Barton of Johnston, IA; six grandchildren: Karl (Emily) Mercer of Cumming, GA, Andrea (Dave) Conlon of Smyrna, GA, Brian Perez (fiancée Karri DeVore) of West Des Moines, IA, Renee (Todd) Fuller of Adel, IA, Aaron Perez of West Des Moines, IA, Felicia Perez (Zach Dickson) of Des Moines, IA and step-grandson, Tyler Barton of West Des Moines, IA; 12 great-grandchildren: Bella Perez, Grace and Karley Mercer, Emma and Morgan Conlon, Allison, Cooper, Angel, Ethan and Cora Fuller, Peyton Perez and Atlas Perez Dickson; and sisters: Zola Gowin of Des Plaines, IL and Verna Farruggia of Carol Stream, IL; other relatives and friends.

At Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak, IA
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, Iowa

Visitation with the family on Monday evening at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the Stanton Fire & Rescue or 96.0 Family Radio.
