Norma Janet Wilson, the daughter of Olrich W. and Julia (Nielsen) Larsen was born July 19, 1920 on the family farm in Buena Vista County, Iowa. Norma was the eldest of five daughters born to the Larsen's. She passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at the Alegent Creighton Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 94 years, 2 months and 19 days. Norma attended Iowa State University where she met her future husband. They were both active members of the Baptist Student Center at the university. Norma and 1941 engineering graduate, Charles W. Wilson, were married June 29, 1941 in her family home in Buena Vista County, Iowa. Norma and Charles established their home in Red Oak, Iowa where her new husband started his career in the family owned Wilson Concrete Company manufacturing firm. Norma saw her young husband answer the call to military service during World War II and return to a small home in Red Oak in 1946, to continue their busy lives. Norma was a member of the First Baptist Church where she held many offices including Chairman of the Trustee Board. She was a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter HB and served on the Red Oak Public Library Board. Norma served on the planning and construction of the Wilson Performing Arts Center, The Montgomery County History Center, Montgomery County Family YMCA and the Red Coach Inn. She was a past President of the former Federated Women's Club and a past board member of the Red Oak Heritage Foundation. Norma loved music, live theatre and traveling with her husband's manufacturing business. She also loved snow skiing and the skiing trips with family and friends to the western United States. Norma was preceded in death by her parents; youngest sister, Carol Jean Horton of Iowa City, IA; infant great-grand triplets; and her dear husband of 71 years, Charles who passed away April 15, 2013. Norma is survived by three children: JoAnne Amoura of Omaha, NE; C. Randall Wilson of Red Oak, IA; and Robert D. Wilson and wife Pamela of Kentwood, MI; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters: Mrs. Majel Sargent and Mrs. Lorraine McVey, both of Phoenix, AZ; Mrs. Joyce Madison of Council Bluffs, IA and brother-in-law, Dr. Loren Horton of Iowa City, IA; plus nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Red Oak, Iowa Burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, Iowa Rev. Len Taylor, Officiating Visitation with the family present on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak, IA.
