Obituary

Norman Lawrence Younggren, the son of Lawrence and Famie (Anderson) Younggren, was born April 9, 1933, in rural Red Oak, Iowa. He went to his heavenly home on December 21, 2025, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 92 years, 8 months, and 12 days.

Norman was baptized and confirmed at Fremont Lutheran Church, Nyman, where he served on the church council. He attended country schools at Hillsdale and High Prairie and in 1953, graduated from Essex High School. Norman served in the U. S. Army from 1953 to 1955, having served 18 months in Fairbanks, Alaska. On December 22, 1957, Norman was united in marriage to Marilyn Jackson at Bertrand, Nebraska. To this union three children were born: Brent, Nancy, and Craig. Norman and Marilyn raised their family at the Younggren farm north of Essex. In April of 1979, they built a home in Essex but kept their homestead and farmland northeast of Essex. Norman had a lifelong passion for farming and enjoyed raising livestock. He was employed for 27 years at Eveready Battery Company in Red Oak, before retiring. Following his retirement, Norman and Marilyn wintered at South Padre Island, Texas. He continued to do so after the passing of Marilyn and up until this past year. Norman enjoyed fishing, traveling, and taking cruises. He was a member of the Fremont Lutheran Church and the American Legion.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Marilyn on January 22, 2015; granddaughter, Bailey J. Buechner; great-grandson, Rhett W. Younggren; brother Robert Younggren and his wives, Betty and Marcia; brother-in-law, Ronald Jackson and his wife Dolores; and sisters-in-law: Jeannie Peterson and husband Keith, and Margaret "Maggie" Tiede.

Norman is survived by three children: Brent (Jolene) Younggren of Essex, IA, Nancy (David) Buechner of Sarasota, FL and Craig (Kerri) Younggren of Lenexa, KS; 7 grandchildren: Jacob (Allie) Younggren of Olathe, KS, Matthew (Kelsey) Younggren of Ely, IA, Morgan Buechner and MacKenzie Buechner both of Sarasota, FL, Katelyn Younggren of Mission, KS, Daniel (Jessica) Younggren of Olathe, KS and Tom Younggren of Overland Park, KS; 7 great-grandchildren: Mason and Beau Younggren, Hunter Buechner, Jameson and Eloise Younggren, Jack and Eden Younggren; and lifelong friend, John Bengtson of Essex, IA; other relatives and friends.

Norman will be missed by all his family and friends, both in Iowa and his winter home at The Tiki in South Padre Island, Texas.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
At Fremont Lutheran Church at Nyman
Private family burial will be held prior to the service at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Nyman.
