Obituary

Opal Grace Kettleborough, the oldest child of Richard and Celia Strait Ritnour was born September 17, 1913 in Nodaway, Iowa. She passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 96 years, 5 months and 6 days. Opal was raised on a farm near Nodaway in Adams County, Iowa. She moved to Red Oak in l929. Opal was united in marriage to Louis L. Wilson in l931 and to this union three children were born: Louis Gene, Richard Earl and Sandra Ann. Opal later married Floyd Taylor. In 1946, Opal married Kenneth Bell who passed away on July 7, 1955. On September 12, 1964, Opal was united in marriage to Howard C. Kettleborough at Broken Bow, Nebraska. Opal worked for Union Carbide Battery Company and later was a housekeeper for the Houghton family. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Red Oak. Opal enjoyed spending time with her family, and was an avid walker at the YMCA even at the age of 91. Howard passed away on May 14, 2005. For the past three and a half years, Opal had been a resident of the Red Oak Good Samaritan Society. Opal was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son, Louis Gene Wilson and 3 brothers: Ferroll, Virgil and Eber Ritnour; granddaughter, Ruth Moore and great-grandson, John Carlson. Opal is survived by two children: Richard E. Wilson and wife Ramona of Albuquerque, NM; and Sandra Helmer and husband Ron of Red Oak, IA; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held Monday, March 1, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Rev. JoAnn Thomas, Officiating Visitation with the family present on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Memorials to First Christian Church and Montgomery County Family YMCA Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
