Paul Kenneth Karwal, was born on December 8, 1917 in rural Carson, Iowa to George and Marie Rustman Karwal. He died on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Society of Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 92 years and 9 days. Paul was five years old when he moved with his parents to the Grant area in l922. Paul attended Foote Country School and farmed with his dad until entering the U.S. Army in June of l942. He was with the 81st Infantry Division, serving in the Pacific Theater for four years. Paul was united in marriage to Vivian Negly on January 11, l946 after being discharged from the Army. They moved to their farm in l946, purchasing the farm in l955, and lived there until last August when he became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Red Oak. Paul treasured his family, farming and was an avid reader. Paul was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Pauline Rasmussen. Paul is survived by his wife of 63 years, Vivian Karwal of Elliott, IA; 4 sons: Steven Karwal and wife Delores of Elliott, IA; Bryan Karwal and wife Deb Ann of Elliott, IA; Don Karwal and wife Janna of Elliott, IA; and George Karwal and wife Pat of Elliott, IA; and daughter: Debra Dvorak and husband Brian of Spencer, IA. Paul was blessed with 18 grandchildren, they are: Bill Karwal, Jason Karwal and wife Alicia; Kristi Clark and husband Jason; Rebekah Frisk and husband Justin; Kimberly Karwal; Amanda Houseright and husband Paul; Katie Karwal and fiancé Joey Liekweg; Greg Karwal; Hannah Peters and husband Jon; Kirby Karwal; Stephanie Horsley and husband Will; Samuel Dvorak; Kayla Dvorak and fiancé Jonathan Feld; Erin Dvorak; Stephanie, Steven, Dillon and Brittany Karwal; 7 great-grandchildren: Ayden and Jace Frisk; Isabelle Karwal; Collin Clark; Danny and Wyatt Houseright; and Ellie Liekweg; 5 nephews: Merlin, Ronald and Dennis Rasmussen of Elliott, IA; Harry Rossander of Urbandale, IA; and Carl Rossander of Clearfield, UT; 2 nieces: Diane Adams of Shenandoah, IA and Denise Wilson of Elliott, IA; other relatives and friends.
