Phyllis Dean (Bauer) Chaney, the daughter of Leonard and Ruth (Jones) Bauer, was born September 3, 1925 in Red Oak, Iowa. She passed away on November 3, 2014 at the Stanton Care Center, Stanton, Iowa at the age of 89 years, and 2 months. Phyllis was raised in Montgomery County in the Red Oak and Villisca areas. She graduated from Villisca High School in 1943. On December 16, 1943, Phyllis was united in marriage to Ernest F. Chaney in Villisca, IA. Phyllis and Ernie lived in the town of Villisca initially and in 1954, moved to just north of Tenville. She and Ernie raised three sons: Ronald, Dennis and Michael. Phyllis worked 25 years in Red Oak for the Union Carbide Corporation in a variety of jobs, retiring in 1986 from the Employee Relations Department. Her favorite hobbies included fishing, paint by number, playing cards, latch hook, dancing, jewelry making, bowling, sewing and taking scenic trips. In 1993, Phyllis and Ernie moved to Red Oak, after a fire destroyed their home. Phyllis was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Bauer in 1989, mother Ruth Bauer in 2000, husband Ernest Chaney on December 25, 2004, son Dennis Chaney in 2010, sister Lila Bock in 2009, sister Donna Pierce in 2010, brother-in-law Don Bock in 2003 and James Pierce in 2014. Phyllis is survived by sons: Ronald Chaney & wife Elaine of Fort Myers, FL; Michael Chaney & wife Elizabeth of California, MD; daughter-in-law, Juanita K. Chaney of Glenwood, IA; grandchildren: Marty Chaney & wife Tami of San Antonio, TX, Dana (Chaney) Firkins & husband Jay of Grimes, IA, and Lisa (Chaney) Garnero of Brooklyn, NY; great-grandchildren: Taylor West, Zoie Firkins, Aidan Garnero & Macy Chaney; many loved nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak Rev. Fred Pilecki, Officiating Burial at Arlington Cemetery, north of Villisca Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America. Visitation with the family present Friday, November 7 from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
