Obituary

Phyllis Isaacson passed away peacefully on January 6, 2019 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, at the age of 91. Phyllis was born November 28, 1927, in Stanton, Iowa, to Virgil and Alta (Albeneson) Shogren. She was the third of four daughters. She was baptized as an infant and later confirmed at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton. When she was 15 she traveled to California to visit an aunt for the summer and worked for J.C. Penney. She was president of her senior class and graduated in 1945 from Stanton High School.

On August 17, 1947, she was united in marriage to Clifford Isaacson at Mamrelund Lutheran Church. Following their marriage, they farmed the home place near Stanton for nine years. They moved to Denver, Colorado in 1956 and Phyllis began working at a bank. The family later moved back to Iowa and then on to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1962. Over the years, Phyllis worked for several different companies in the Twin Cities as a bookkeeper. She and Cliff retired in 1989 to Dassel, Minnesota, where they built a home and realized their dream of living on a lake.

Phyllis was active in churches in the cities where they lived. She had a beautiful singing voice and sang in church choirs and with small groups. She also performed solos on special occasions. She was active in various women's groups and Bible studies. Phyllis was an accomplished seamstress and also enjoyed gardening in her retirement years. She loved collecting antiques and decorating the many homes that she and Cliff remodeled. She was generous and enjoyed giving gifts. Her Swedish and small town heritage were very important to her and whenever possible she spent time with her extended family.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, two sisters, and husband, Clifford. She is survived by her son, Steven Isaacson and his wife Barbara of Saint Cloud, Minnesota; her daughter, Michele Johnson and her husband Charles of Buena Vista, Colorado; grandchildren Jeffrey (Melissa) and Michael (Erica) Isaacson, Meredith (David) McConnell, Karen (Ryan) Schmidt, Andrew Johnson, Brita (Ohad) Almog, Micah Johnson, Sarah (Shannon) Langston, Elisabet (Jordan) Green, David (Olga) and Mary Johnson. Her six great grandchildren are Xavier and Joseph Isaacson, Madison Schmidt, and Orin, Nevoh, and Amalia Almog. She is also survived by her sister, Virgilene (Mick) Pickard of Ankeny, Iowa.

The family wishes to extend its thanks to the Good Shepherd Community, St. Croix Hospice, and the Deacons of the First Presbyterian Church of Saint Cloud for their care, love, and support in this difficult time. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be given to either the United Service Organization ( USO.org ) or Mamrelund Lutheran Church.
